Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, lived a shepherd boy. His being was untarnished, and unsophisticated. His main role was to care for his herd of sheep.
Their low murmuring and the whispering of the gales across the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main co-dwellers. Day upon day, looking out for his responsibilities imbued in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.
But, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd check here boy would long for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome scheme.
Stories of wild beasts preying on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.
One morning he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but discovered no beast.
The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick laughed for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
